《韩非子·外储说左上》记载，郢地有人晚上给燕国丞相写信，因烛光不亮，命拿烛的人举烛，于是不自觉地把“举烛”二字写在信里。燕相读后，高兴地说：举烛是崇尚光明，崇尚光明就是选用贤德的人。后用“郢书燕说”比喻误解原意，穿凿附会。燕（yān）。
